Tropical and subtropical American ferns with creeping rhizomes and broad fronds that vary from simply lobed to deeply pinnatifid, often with a distinctive blue-green or glaucous cast. Many grow naturally as epiphytes, with the rhizomes travelling across the surface rather than remaining buried.
