Woody based deciduous perennials and sub-shrubs formerly treated in the genus Perovskia, these plants are now included within Salvia, though the older name remains widely used in gardens and nurseries. Garden forms typically have upright pale stems, aromatic grey to grey green foliage and branching sprays of small blue, violet-blue or lavender flowers from late summer into autumn.
