SAMBUCUS SACHALINENSIS
SAMBUCUS SACHALINENSIS
Sambucus sachalinensis is a distinctive and rare elderberry species, prized for its early-season fluffy cream flowers appearing in March to April. These fragrant racemes add beauty to the spring garden, followed by clusters of bright red berries in August, which provide interest and attract wildlife.
This vigorous deciduous shrub grows to 3-4m and thrives in moist, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. However, it is susceptible to wind damage in spring, so a sheltered location is ideal. A great addition for wildlife gardens, mixed borders, or naturalistic plantings.
