In the right conditions the foliage so red it can be mistaken for Imperata cylindrica 'Rubra' then it turns almost black in early autumn. Deciduous, airy flowers Jul-Oct, 75cm. Selected by Hans Simon, Germany. Needs a long hot growing season to colour.
