Melica nutans, a graceful grass, forms very pretty, orderly clumps of delicate, dangling dark flowers. This perennial reaches a height of 30cm and is known for its self-seeding habit, although it rarely self-seeds in some gardens. Native to Europe, including Britain, it is well-suited to woodland gardens or shaded borders.

Its dainty flower spikes and neat growth habit make it an ideal choice for naturalistic plantings or as a soft textural element in mixed borders. Melica nutans adds movement and elegance to the garden, making it a versatile addition to any plant palette.
