GOMPHOCARPUS PHYSOCARPUS
GOMPHOCARPUS PHYSOCARPUS
Gomphocarpus physocarpus, also known as the Swan Plant, is a unique, ornamental shrub with striking pale green, bladder-like fruits covered in delicate bristles. These unusual seed pods are excellent for cutting and floral arrangements, adding a sculptural touch to dried or fresh displays.
From July to November, the plant also produces clusters of white-green, hoya-like flowers, attracting pollinators and beneficial insects. Native to South Africa, this sparsely branched shrub grows up to 1.5m tall and prefers full sun and well-drained soil.
Though frost-tender, it can be grown as an annual in cooler climates or overwintered indoors. Ideal for exotic garden displays, butterfly friendly borders, or unique cut flower arrangements, Gomphocarpus physocarpus is a standout addition to any collection.
